Read Slate

This is why I read Slate. Oh, sometimes I go through a whole week without being engaged, but sometimes they take an issue and give it a twist I’ve either not thought of or not read anywhere else. Today, it’s comparing arguments about tanning to sexuality arguments (“it’s risky even if you only do it once!”), and asking what the real value of independent bookstores is.

A week that brings notice of the closing of the Telegraph Ave. Cody’s and the sale of A Clean Well-Lighted Place for Books, is a week with a number of nostalgic moments (especially in Clean). A bookstore on paper is just another economic venture, but I never went to a drugstore that made me feel like a good bookstore does.
